Launching the GW4 Climate Alliance: Our response to the Climate Emergency

The launch of the GW4 Climate Alliance took place on 20 October 2021. See the launch programme here. Sir Tim’s thought provoking and challenging presentation set the bar and the conversation continued during the following panel debate between five invited experts in their field. Four of our Early Career Researchers also gave the audience an excellent insight into the diverse climate projects across our four universities.

Watch Sir Tim Smit KBE, co-founder of The Eden Project, talking about how universities can help society to address climate change.

Watch the Building Collaborations Panel Discussion with Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh, Professor Paul Howard-Jones, Councillor Martyn Alvey, Dr Sara MacBride-Stewart and Professor Emma Bland.

Watch the Showcase of Climate Research from our Early Career Researchers. See presentations from Léna Prouchet (Exeter) Dr Oscar Berglund (Bristol) Dr Elli Nikolaidou (Bath) and Dr Roberta De Angelis (Cardiff).

We asked our audience what collaborative challenges should the Climate Alliance prioritise?

We were pleased to see so much enthusiasm for GW4’s multi-disciplinary climate research and innovation throughout the event, both in terms of current projects and the potential for future collaboration. The conversations initiated will shape the Alliance’s future activities and we are looking forward to building on the momentum generated.

The launch was part of our commitment to connecting practitioners, industry, policy makers, researchers, and the public, and to support the climate research leaders of the present and future. We wanted to spark conversations about how we can harness our collective regional expertise and resources to address climate change.
